Bill Atkinson received his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1966. Following graduation, he returned to his hometown of Winfield, Alabama to begin a solo law practice. He served as Mayor of Winfield and as District Attorney for the 25th Judicial Circuit of Alabama. After leaving the District Attorney's office in 1981, he joined the firm of Fite, Davis and Atkinson, predecessor to the present firm. He has maintained an active civil and criminal practice in Northwest Alabama since that time. He has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association since 1983; as a member of the Public Defender Commission for the 25th Judicial Circuit of Alabama, and is presently serving as a member of the Alabama Pattern Jury Instruction Commission. He is admitted to practice in the state courts of Alabama, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Bill and his family are active members of the First Baptist Church of Winfield, where he has served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and adult Sunday school teacher.
